ILP #2

For my second Independent Learning Project, I did an iMovie of a quiz about the hit television show, Friends. I utilized the sound and music settings to put the theme song in the background; I used the photo features of iMovie to put in photos from the show Friends; and I used the title features to put in the questions and the answers for the quiz. I chose to use iMovie because I took TV production in high school and learned how to use iMovie and the many different features and ever since, I have been very interested and passionate about it. I think I will utilize Excel in the classroom to do attendance, to keep track of behavior of the students in the class, and to show the class the statistics on each test so that they can be aware of where they stand in the classroom grade-wise. I plan to teach math when I am a teacher and i think using graphs to determine which types of problems are most commonly missed and which are most commonly correct will benefit my teaching strategies and which subjects to focus more on. In this class, I have learned a lot about some social media sites and other helpful websites that can be used for teaching. For example, I would have never thought to use Pinterest as a resource for teaching but from my classmates' blogs, I learned different ways to use these sites for educational purposes. Adaptive technologies are technologies that were previously made but are modified to help learners with disabilities. These help support learners because things that are difficult for them on a normal basis and things that would be difficult for them to use compared with normal learners are enhanced so that they have the ability to learn the information and stay on track. These adaptive technologies make it easier for learners with disabilities because they are modified to fit the needs of the child. The problem with using adaptive technologies in the classroom is that certain students will be using these adaptive technologies, where no other students will. So far, my experience with Twitter has been good. I think it is interesting to have a Twitter with all of your classmates because it's cool to get to know them a little on a more personal level. In college, I feel like you do not necessarily get to know the people in your classes because they are so big and you don't always get the opportunity to talk to them. Seeing what my classmates have to say on Twitter is always interesting because I get to hear new things from new people. The benefits of using Twitter are that it is more of a personal platform so you can basically say anything you want, and because of hashtags, it seems that there is always a new topic people are talking about. ILP #1

For my Independent Learning Project, I decided to interview a teacher about the technology she uses in the classroom. Last year, my best friend graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Education, and right after graduating, she became a teacher in her hometown, Bradenton, Florida. Through FSU's education program, she taught many classes and utilized the resources that the school had to offer, and I was interested to see how the resources that she used while interning were different than the resources she had now. Many of the class pages include the class objectives, quick links for the websites used in class, assignments, contact information, and announcements for the class. This class is for Nyack Middle school for Mrs. Peterson's 7th grade math class. When I teach, I plan to use my phone calendar and to-do list in order to stay organized and up-to-date with assignments and due dates. I also plan to use Google Drive in order to keep all of my files and documents in one area. Working both at school and at home can be difficult when it comes to documents because often times you have documents on various computers and it is difficult to stay organized. By using Google Drive, I would have all of my documents in one spot and it would be much more easy to access.
