Adaptive technologies are technologies that were previously made but are modified to help learners with disabilities. These help support learners because things that are difficult for them on a normal basis and things that would be difficult for them to use compared with normal learners are enhanced so that they have the ability to learn the information and stay on track. These adaptive technologies make it easier for learners with disabilities because they are modified to fit the needs of the child.
The problem with using adaptive technologies in the classroom is that certain students will be using these adaptive technologies, where no other students will. Some other students may wonder why one students gets a special technology that no one else received and it is sometimes hard to explain to students why this is. Especially in younger classes, it is very important to treat all students equal because they don't understand that certain students need more help than others and they may get upset that they are being treated differently than someone else. It can get challenging to deal with adaptive technologies because it is different than the technologies that other students are using.
