Over the years, I have used Microsoft Word more and more for school. In elementary school, using computers were not as important and relevant as they were in middle and high school. In high school especially, writing papers and submitting assignments online were very common. Now in college, rarely do we ever turn in assignments in-person, but nearly every one of our assignments are turned in online. I write all of my papers on Microsoft Word and I use it nearly every day. Though I don't see my professors use Microsoft Word very often because most of their presentations are on PowerPoint, almost all of them use it to type out and submit their syllabus each semester. Word has become a very integral part of my education and I have become very familiar and comfortable with it over the years.

An example of copyright and fair use of materials in an educational setting is one time in my TV production class, we had to make a video that was supposed to be a PSA. She told us that most likely, we will want to use a song, or music of some sort. She told us that if we wanted to use a song, we would have to email the producers of the song and make sure that they would allow us to use their song for our project, and if they said no or they didn't respond then we could not use it. This was the first time I had ever been introduced to copyright issues at all. I never knew that it was a legal problem to use someone else's song for something personal if you don't have permission. As a teacher, I would be sure to educate my students as to why this would be important, and I would put it in perspective. I would ask them how they would feel if they worked really hard on a homework assignment or project and someone stole it and didn't give you any credit for it. I would make sure that my students understand why copyright is such an important and common issue, and I would do what my TV Production teacher did, and make them do what they would have to do in the real world. I would be sure that all of my instructional materials are original and that my students know that so they don't think that I am copying my materials, and I would be sure to cite my sources, even in my notes and presentations.

One implementation issue that is prevalent in today's educational technology is freedom of speech. Many people say whatever they feel on the Internet and it is not always appropriate for children to see this. That's why it is very important for there to be restrictions on school computers. Websites that allow people to write freely, such as blogs, social media, YouTube, should be blocked at schools so that students aren't exposed to things that they should not be seeing in an educational environment. Another solution to this problem is that in a setting in which students are using computers, the teacher should be allowed access to every students' computer and what they are looking at. If the student leaves the website they are supposed to be on, it should notify the teacher so that they can shut it down immediately and the student should not be allowed to utilize the computer unless monitored. This would help students from getting exposed to things they shouldn't and would also encourage students to stay on task. Another prevalent issue in today's society is privacy. Many students do not understand the severity of not putting personal information on the Internet. Although it is an issue that students are aware of, many students are not aware of just how scary it can be if you put too much information on the Internet. There should be a mandatory class or presentation at least for every school that teaches students about privacy and the repercussions of putting too much information out there. This way, more students would be fully aware and would understand and hopefully keep their social media pages more private.
